Wood Pile and Floor Joists

Image
Monday July 24  The 45 minute delay on Hammonds Plains Road this morning cut into the wood chucking (Linda's not sad).   Our underground electrical and communications conduit was finished and ready for Inspection.   Floor joists are almost done.    We got a start on our wood piling.     Final decision on shingle colour:  Thunder Sky Yay! Underground Railroad Deer...again.   Sea Heather

Starting to look like a building!

Insulation, Electrical, Plumbing AHHH

Image
Tuesday brought the general contractor's crew and plumbers to the site.  Awaiting NS Power to show up and the spray foam guy. Mailed a card order off to the BVI.  Headed back to town and visited EMCO showroom.    Wednesday we stayed in 'the city' to do things there.  Quotes for heating, metal roofing, and so on.   Back to Sunnybrook on Thursday.  Which colour for the exterior shingles????   Finally!   Work work work And the firewood...

Tools or Toys

The forms came off the foundation.  Got ourselves a new Stihl chainsaw (bundled with a trimmer for the Pearn residence).    Things should start taking shape next week, while we continue to keep busy clearing trees and brush or  researching and shopping for quotes.   Timberframe is scheduled to ship out from BC next week!   Ah...yardsale. Dead deer. Live Deer on Sunnybrook Rd.  Forms off.  Garage view... Stihl of a deal.

Foundational

Image
The foundation was supposed to be poured on Friday, then Tuesday morning, then Tuesday around 3PM.  Finally the concrete trucks came at 6PM!!   I think I'm getting excited now. The day started with bottling a batch of wine.  Ashley spent the day with us and shared in the big moment. Despite waiting for the cement mixers to arrive we managed to have a fun and productive day.  Fish and chips, caesar salad at the PUB, banking, chainsaw and weed whacker shopping, then mussels downtown while waiting the second time around.   En route! A fine vintage. Shopping

Flu, Forms and Inspections

Image
The foundation contractor apparently had a touch of the flu on Friday so things got a little delayed.  But he was back at it Monday morning and they have the forms ready for concrete on Tuesday morning.   Footings were officially inspected today and passed.    Other highlights was discovering a new coffee shop in Mahone Bay (The Barn) and getting our CIVIC NUMBER Sign.  Big day!  :-)

Drains, Beams & Rock Slingers

Image
Footings needed time to dry, then it rained and holidays.  Finally more action at the lot - I-Beam delivered, drain "tile" installed and beginnings of forms going in for foundation.  The ROCK SLINGER was supposed to show up today but we didn't see it when we left the lot at 3PM.  MaƱana.
